Now this is fun! Giants on a three game win streak. Even sweeter I started Correia in my NL-only league.
San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Kevin Correia befuddled Cardinals batters over 7 2/3 scoreless frames, as the San Francisco Giants downed the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-1, at AT&T Park.
Correia (1-1) mixed a sharp breaking ball with 2- and 4-seam fastballs, striking out four and scattering five hits with two walks. Fred Lewis doubled, tripled and scored twice for the Giants, who have won three in a row after a 1-6 start.
Adam Wainwright (1-1) ran out of gas in the seventh after six solid frames. The right-hander gave up four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in seven innings. Troy Glaus knocked in the lone run for the Cardinals, who were looking for their best 10-game start to a season in 27 years.
The Giants quickly got on the scoreboard in the first with Lewis’ double and Aaron Rowand’s RBI single. Lewis’ triple preceded Randy Winn’s sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead in the third before each starting hurler reached a comfort zone.
San Francisco tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Ray Durham and Jose Castillo recorded back-to-back doubles and Rich Aurilia’s single scored Castillo for the 4-0 lead.
The Giants took a 5-0 lead in the eighth framed after Winn singled and moved from first to third on pitcher Ron Villone’s wild pick-off throw. He scored on Bengie Molina’s single.
St. Louis scored its lone run in the ninth on Glaus’ RBI double.
