Footballguys.com is easily one of the best fantasy football site around. I’ve been going to footballguys since 2001 and the content is really unmatched anywhere else on the net. While they have many great features one of my favorites is the newsletter they send out. Every year Joe Bryant sends out his “non football” newsletter on three occasions, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. Needless to say being Retired Army I look forward to these newsletters and the feelings that are expressed in them. Class act all the way in my book…
OK, back to the topic of the day - Memorial Day is tomorrow.
The Paul Williams thing is the only football info today. Main thing for this email is that we want to say thanks. I make three exceptions a year when I send a non football email: Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. Every year, I have people who send me mail telling me I have no right to “preach” and that I should never have the nerve to send something non football related. Especially something patriotic. Save your breath. Seriously. If you fall into that category, and this is too much for you, instructions for unsubscribing from this list are at the bottom of the email.
I fully understand there are a lot of people unhappy with our current administration. Trust me, I get that. Fortunately for those folks, we get to vote here in this country and choose our leaders. So get out to the ballot booth in November. In the meantime, today is a day that we in the U.S. recognize and remember our Veterans.
For you guys who are not U.S. citizens, thanks for your patience and please indulge us here. Memorial Day is a big deal for us. It’s a day where we as a nation, take a moment and thank the men and women who’ve given everything for our country.
It’s easy for the true meaning of this day to get lost in the excitement of Summer starting and cookouts and picnics. But please don’t lose sight of the day’s real significance. Most of the things we’ll enjoy today, we’re enjoying because those before us made selfless sacrifices.
As I always do on Memorial Day, I’m including some words by Father Dennis Edward O’Brien below. It’s the same one I send on Veterans day and while Memorial Day is a little different, the big picture idea is the same.
If you know a veteran or a family member of a veteran, take thirty seconds and say “thanks”. It’ll go a long ways. Trust me. To all our Footballguys readers and their families who are honored today, we salute you and say “Thank You.”
Happy Memorial Day.
