Week 7 NFL pool picks…early game

October 21st, 2005 at 9:55 am

Here we go for week 7. Finished last week at 10-4. Looking at tonights game I’m going with Kansas City over Miami. Just think KC has too many weapons for Miami to handle. If Dolphins DE Jason Taylor (questionable on the injury report) misses the game it will really open things up for the Chiefs running game…while the Dolphins pass defense has been pretty stingy overall (10th in NFL at 190.4 yards a game) it may just open up the short game for the Chiefs and there’s a good chance we could see TE Tony Gonzalez get his first TD of the season.

Luck be a…Trojan

That was just an awesome game…USC 34 Norte Dame 30…that’s one time Carroll doesn’t mind his QB fumbling the ball…how lucky was that?!…and the fact the officials didn’t pay attention to whoever that USC coach was trying to call a timeout on the sideline…laughed when I saw Carroll pushing him as far away from the field as possible!…Reggie Bush is a monster…15/160/3TDs rushing, plus another 35 receiving and 64 return yards…

NFL takes a backseat

Now that is what playoff baseball is all about! What a game between the Astros and Braves…18 innings of knock down, slugfest baseball. Roger Clemens got the win after pitching three innings of relief…from the 15th inning on! Games like this are always good for checking out the box score, even if your just a casual fan… Astros win NLDS after record post-season slugfest Chris Burke Game winner

Week 5 NFL Pool Picks

October 9th, 2005 at 2:30 am

In one of my fantasy leagues we use myfantasyleague.com as our league management service. A cool feature they have is the NFL pool picks for owners to submit each week of the season. After four weeks I’m sitting fourth with 27 correct picks (first is at 38), which isn’t bad considering I missed submitting picks in week one. I’ve had a high of 12 correct picks in week 3 and low of 6 in week 2. For today’s games… I’m going with Seattle over the Rams…I think Shaun Alexander will be the difference in this game…they’ll need to give him the ball to soften up the Rams run defense (8th in the league at 91.8 ypg) and turn Hasselbeck loose on a pass defense that is giving up 255 passing yards a game…even without Jackson and Engram, Hasselbeck will have enough targets to get the job done…Tennessee over Houston…Titans defense make it a long day for Texans David Carr…McNair will be playing on a short field for most of the day thanks to his defense and will take advantage of it.

Miami over Buffalo…The Dolphins run defense (76.3 ypg 0 rushing TDs) will be tested by McGahee…on the other side the Dolphins running game should find the going a little easier against a Bills run defense that is giving up 172.2 ypg…that will open it up for Frerotte to find Chambers who should have a big day. Tampa Bay gets by the New York Jets in a game where I see the Buccaneers defense taking advantage of a (very) poor Jets offense…Ronde Barber, Simeon Rice, Derrick Brooks, Shelton Quarles and the rest of the Bucs D will win this game…New Orleans over the Packers…Brooks, McAllister, Stallworth, and Conwell will be too much for the Packers…and if Horn plays just another weapon for Brooks…plus the Saints defense will force Farve into more than one mistake during the game.

Baltimoe over Detroit…Ravens defense comes alive and makes it a long day for Harrington…Denver over Washington…tough call here as I really think the Redskins have one of the better defense’s in the league…but at home the Broncos will wear them down…Cleveland over Chicago…just because…no really…actually I’m excited about seeing WR Braylon Edwards becoming more involved in the Browns offense…Carolina over Arizona…Panthers QB Jake Delhomme is the difference here…plus the Cardinals will find it hard to get any kind of rushing attack going, so the Panthers D will be able to get after McCown all day.

Atlanta over New England…Patriots injuries against Vick, Dunn, Duckett and Crumpler give the advantage to the Falcons…Philadelphia over Dallas…McNabb, Westbrook, Owens and L.J. Smith are just TDs waiting for game time…Dallas just doesn’t have enough juice to keep up.

Indianapolis over San Francisco…I’ve been burned by Peyton Manning and the Colts on more than one parlay card in the past…but this week gotta go with them again…tough luck for 49ers rookie QB Alex Smith making his first start against a defense that is playing lights out right now…plus Manning looks to have found his groove after last weeks 4 TD performance…Cincinnati over Jacksonville…this is going to be a good game…will be a tough test for the Bengals but they have too much for the Jaguars to handle.

Monday Night San Diego over Pittsburgh…homer pick but I think the Chargers have the team to beat the Steelers…whenever you have a talent like LaDainian Tomlinson on the field sometimes that’s enough.
